In class we read the article CRUDE AWAKENING by Emma Davy. The main points are
- 90% of the world’s transportation runs on petroleum
- Scientists think 71.8 trillion gallons of oil are left in the ground
- Their is a car in Luxembourg that runs on compressed air (MiniCAT)
- Oil is 40% of the worlds energy
- The US is 4% of the world’s population but uses 25% of the world’s oil
- OPEC ( Organization for Petroleum Exporting Countries ) has 65% of the world’s oil
The most important points were the 1st, 3rd, and 5th points. I think because we rely so much on oil for transportation, we should use more cars like the MiniCAT and hybridsto preserve oil. The US should especially be trying to make these changes, as we use so much oil. Another way we could cut back on oil is by using fireplaces to heat our houses instead of expensive oil. This article was very informative and taught us about oil problems in the world.

In Math on Friday we had a quiz ratios. Ratios are a comparison between a part and a part and a part and a whole. After working on the quiz we learned a new game aboutsperdsheet which we have also worked on recently.
Ratios work like this…
There are 3 dogs and 6 cats at Emilys house. What is the ratio of cats to the total amount of animals.
Can you find the answer?

Dear Friend,
I am so excited to tell you about our country, Turkey, and our great leader Kamal Ataturk. He has banned the fez,
which has a religious purpose. So now our country is more secular.
We have a new alphabet and women have the right to vote. With the addition of the new alphabet and public education centers, the literacy rate went from 20% to 90%! He has also set a spark in everyone’s minds about cultural and art. He opened a lot of museums, and I’ve been to many of them.
Your friend,
Caitlin
